December
Hello 1st Grade Families,

December is already here!! Can you believe it?!!  Next week we have Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you then! Your children have been working very hard in 1st Grade and can't wait for you see their work!

In Reader's Workshop, we began reading our first Junie B. Jones story called, The Stupid Smelly Bus and the children are really getting to know the character well! Please encourage your child to talk about characters by making observations as they read regarding patterns in behavior and continue reading each and every night.

In Math, we are beginning Unit 4 and students will be learning more about measurement and will practice using both non-standard and standard units to measure.

In Science, we are learning all about sound and vibrations.  In Social Studies, we will be learning about winter holidays.

If anyone would like to sign up to be a parent volunteer and come in to celebrate one of the winter holidays with our class by making a craft, reading a book or bringing in a treat, please contact me ASAP so we can arrange a date. I can allow one volunteer for Christmas, one for Hanukkah and one for Kwanzaa.  It will be a non-religious celebration and more of a discussion on family traditions and special foods.

Lastly, this week we will be visiting the Holiday Shop. Our scheduled time is Wednesday at 1:00 pm.  Please send your child in with their labeled envelope and money that day.  If you already sent it in, that's ok, I will hold onto it until then.

Happy December!! Enjoy the holidays and this special time with family and loved ones.

Best,
Ms. Maggie Moreno
