READ to LEARN
During the month of January, we were embedded in nonfiction literature,
which was so exciting.
Now our 3rd graders are reading to learn;
rather than learning to read.
As we read articles about animals, people, history, etc., students wrote 4 paragraph essays in response to
analytical questions based on the articles.
Their responses are becoming more sophisticated everyday.
We are so proud of their growth!
Now that February has arrived,
we will continue reviewing paragraph writing, but we are also taking an interesting turn in our writing focus.
Our third graders have begun learning how to develop realistic fiction stories! How exciting!
The process of learning how to develop characters, setting and events takes some time.
Yet, our students are ready and excited about this new unit of study! They all look forward to sharing their final stories.
